I found a new way to pass the time when I’m not working or preparing for my diploma thesis (which sould be complete by February or so, with a hopefully not all too optimistic estimate): Painting miniatures. Actually, I did that before, around 10 years ago I had a Warhammer 40k army (Chaos Space Marines) – I stopped playing roughly when the 3rd edition came out and in my very humble opinion dumbed down the game, so it must’ve been 1998.
Now, I recently got Doom: The Boardgame (official site with Flash and sound), and some minis are so well-sculpted that it’s a huge waste having them and not painting them. Particularly the Cyberdemon is awesome. And, due to somewhat odd plastic color choices they look like a circus if you don’t paint them.
So in the course of the last two evenings, I straightened and adjusted all the minis’ bases and limbs (with hot and cold water baths, awesome method for plastic minis like these), washed and base coated them all:
And, today I painted my first miniature in years
I won’t spend too much time for each miniature (this one was a roughly 90 minutes job), except for the big ones, and I still need some warming up too. Of course, I’m no pro, but I think it didn’t turn out all that bad
As if I hadn’t enough work to do everywhere as it is. But a man needs his time off, right?
Update 2008-11-29 22:44: I made a new picture after finishing up the base and doing some retouching here and there, and replaced the old one with it. I think it’s done now.
Update 2008-12-01 11:19: Meanwhile, they’re three, and still cute
I also added some more detail to the claws, to make them stand out a bit more:

Etwas klein sind sie ja schon, aber irgendwie ginge das sicher. So Kunstturner-Zombie-Türme oder so.
