I’m in the Quake Live Beta, yay!
Quake Live
If you haven’t heard of it … Quake Live is, basically, Quake III Arena with (very) slightly improved graphics as a browser plugin, plus online stats, plus automatic matchmaking (so lower skill levels find servers where they’re not annihilated, too – yay). And the best part, it’s absolutely, totally, entirely free of charge!

The game is as great as it used to be, funny how id totally nailed the multiplayer shooter over 10 years ago already.
Considering the Quake Engine is open source already (and spawned great projects like World of Padman), it’s a somewhat natural step, but still a great display of appraciation from id Software.
Now, here’s the best bit: I have 5 beta invitations to give out. Comment here to get one of them (obviously your email address, which won’t be displayed, has to be correct). First come first get, the race is on

The invites go on and off, id keeps adding new ones irregularly (kinda reminds me of the closed Gmail beta).
When you write the email address in the email field, that’s enough – I see that in the blog’s admin interface. It’d help if you’d write first and last name though, if you don’t want id to think your last name is “somethingsomething”

I would LOVE an invite to this! Been a quake fan for 11 years and only found out about this today but have been trying to find an invite all day! If anyone has one spare i would really appreciate it. Also, does anyone know if there are any problems playing on a mac?

But, it doesn’t seem to work on Macs, currently (although it’s said to come soon). If you’re in the beta then, you’ll be among the first to know

You’re not lame at all
id is occasionally a bit slow with mailing out the invites, I just fill your mail address into a form on the beta site and they do the actual mailing – I remember one that took nearly 20 hours until it arrived

Yeah, I just double-checked, and it wouldn’t let me invite you again – “Email address already invited” was the error.
