Aye, you have to be able to place them somewhere after the fight. I didn't mean to say anywhere that the additional units are free, and I don't think I implied that (though the post itself, albeit not the comment above yours, could be interpreted to that effect, it's not what I meant), but the fact that he can bring more units definitely is quite an advantage for the attacker.

When you attack, you are able to attack with more units than are allowed to stay in the attacked area. Usually, it is limited to +2 units. So you can attack a field limited to 2 units with up to 4. If you have Pneumatized Carapace, it will be up to 5. You don´t get any unit for free :D
If you win, the units over limit should be stationed in near fields under your control or they will be destroyed.

I was talking about the tech Pneumatized Carapace there - with that, the Zerg can bring 3 additional units to an attack.

Writing this, I'm thinking about the way the Assist Module could bring even a 4th additional unit to the battle, but that's a benefit that works for the defense as well, so it doesn't really count in this context :P

Thanks for your comment, by the way!

Great reading: One question though. We write "Offense gets 2 (or 3 if they’re Zerg and nasty) additional units". What do you mean by that? How can Zerg get three additional units?

What have I missed?

Yeah flexibility is huge. never go into a game of starcraft thinking you are going to go with a specific build because your plans will get thwarted.

star the game off looking at the board and player position and decide what to do from there and adapt to you opponents actions.

Hm, true ... I'll see if I can find words to explain that to newer players though, I guess that's close to the point where own experience really is necessary to see when what works and what doesn't, and formulaic approaches reach their limits...

I tried to point out occasionally that adaptation and improvisation are indispensable, all suggested strategies should be seen with that perspective...

I just suggest to have the another look on factions. In most sections refefing to races, you explain well how to play good with this one - what units/cards to use and how. But each faction/galaxy shape/game mode somehow limits/expands your tactical abilities (agressive, defensive, expansive, stalling others moves etc.), makes them easier/harder to implement/exploit. It is good to notice such things during game and fit our plans to this - you should know when you are advised to defend/berserk/expand etc.

Thanks both of you for your comments :)

@cyb3k True, didn't think of those benefits of attacking, it's worse than I thought for defense-focused people :P About those game styles, you think I should add another section for them? Or do you want to expand on what you mean? I didn't go into the whole teamplay aspect, haven't gotten the chance to play a team game myself yet :(

@blarknob Heh, I was wrong when writing the articles as well, like when I thought defend orders could go into empty areas - guess the rules are just so complex that it's inevitable to do mistakes occasionally. Your input was very valuable though, both before and after I had started writing the articles :)

Another arguments to avoid defense as often as possible:
- keep in mind that some (if not most) abilities of cards work best if you are attacking side
- the succesfull defensive strategies really depends on shapes of the galaxy: number of players, their and your positions, your starting planet, possibilities of each side to win

There are some "game styles" - much of them are bounded with factions and Types of game (FFA, Team Games), but i think it's possible to generalize and describe them better.

Moving Z-Axis: It is very dangerous card if somebody used Z-Axis to rush early any oppotent, devestating in use... Redirect his transport to other planet, cut off the main invaiding forces and endanger other enemies. You are the winning side :] I've seen it used twice during one game and it really messed up the FFA game (to my benefit :P)

Adding transports: Is is also a kind of bluff, use it suprisingly, when nobody expect this, to weaken aggresive plans of your enemies.
